Robert Duane Miller, age 87, formerly of Port Huron, died peacefully at his home in Punta Gorda, FL on November 6, 2014.
He was born on June 13, 1927 to the late Norman and Tillie (Weinmann) Miller of Pigeon, MI. On March 6, 1948, Bob married Virginia Cooley, who preceded him in death on January 1, 2000. Bob and Virginia lived in Port Huron most of their married life. He retired from Mueller Brass in 1987 after more than 35 years of service. After retirement, Bob and Virginia moved to Punta Gorda, FL.
Bob served his country during World War II, first in the U.S. Army from 1945-1946 and then in the U.S. Army-Air Force after reenlisting. He was stationed in the Philippines and received an honorable discharge in 1947. He truly enjoyed his hobbies of woodworking, fishing, gardening, wine-making, golf, bowling and watching the Detroit Tigers.
Bob is survived by his loving friend and fiancé, Loretta Gruber; three daughters, Lynn (David) Robertson, Carol (Gary) Vyncke, and Francie (John) Kivel; 6 grandchildren, Andy (Nicole) Robertson, Peter (Misty) Kruse, Bobby (Susie) Robertson, Katie (Chris) Phelan, Virginia Kivel and Michael Kivel; 4 great-grandchildren, Kaylee Kruse and Lucy, Christian and Lucas Robertson. He is also survived by three siblings, Donald Miller, Dorothy Whelihan and Norma Sackett and many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Miller; their son, Robert (died in infancy); his granddaughter, Maggie Robertson; his brothers, John Miller and Orie Miller; and his sisters, Beatrice Scott, Beulah Davis, Daisy Collingwood, and Eva McLeod.
Bob’s final resting place will be at the Caswell Cemetery in Kimball, MI. A private memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
