Frank J. Spotts, 95, of Fort Gratiot Township, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, November 20, 2014.
He was born May 8, 1919 in Milford, Michigan to the late George and Lena Spotts. He married the love of his life, Beatrice Hildebrandt, on February 28, 1941 in Ypsilanti. She preceded him in death on January 6, 2012.
Frank began his lifelong relationship with Jesus as a young child. He actively served his Lord throughout his youth. In 1937, he graduated from Pontiac High School and began attending Michigan Normal College (Eastern Michigan University) where he met Beatrice. After they married, he graduated in 1941 with a B.A. degree in science and his teaching certificate.
After graduation, Frank worked as a research chemist at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit at the time penicillin was developed. His next job was at Baldwin Rubber Company in Pontiac, where he was involved in the development of synthetic rubber and other significant items used in World War II. Then in 1944, Frank was inducted into active service in the Army, assigned to the 10th Mountain Division in Italy, testing water for our troops.
After the war, Frank was a teacher and administrator in numerous educational settings in Michigan. God used his vocational abilities to guide the growth of Oakland Christian School and New Life Christian Academy.
Frank and Beatrice served the Lord together for their entire married life, in numerous capacities. He really enjoyed teaching Sunday school classes and serving on various church and community leadership boards, such as St. Clair County Youth for Christ and the Port Huron Museum.
Upon retirement, they joined the Mobile Missionary Assistance Program and traveled in the RV 4-5 months of the year, covering a span of most of the states for 26 years. They volunteered their services to Christian camps and churches on 76 work projects. In their later years, he continued to serve by praying for and encouraging others. His care, compassion, humility, servant’s heart and integrity endeared him to many.
Frank is survived by their six children, Elizabeth (Larry) Bail of Carmel, Indiana, Franklin (Cheryl) Spotts of Port Huron, Dwight (Lila) Spotts of Spokane, Washington, Techla Spotts of Fort Gratiot, Doss (Carole) Spotts of Coeur-de-lene, Idaho and Paul (Cynthia) Spotts of Albion; 19 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, as well as dear cousins, Marjorie Kearns and Helen Hoke. He was preceded in death by his wife; twin brother, Rev. Alfred Spotts; and grandson, Benjamin Bail.
Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 in Griswold Street Baptist Church with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Dr. Timothy North and the Reverend James Petit will officiate.
Burial will be in Capac Cemetery following the luncheon. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
