Dorothy C. Johnson, 87, of Port Huron died Saturday, June 13, 2015.
She was born November 22, 1927 in Harbor Beach to the late Mathew and Anastasia Warchock (Polish spelling is “Warczak”). She married Merle M. “Bud” Johnson on March 21, 1945 in Harbor Beach. He preceded her in death on July 12, 1999.
Dorothy was very involved during the 1970’s in the start-up and success of Recovery Inc., a self-help organization for people with mental illness to learn to cope and deal with their illness.
She is survived by her children, Richard M. (Maggie) Johnson, Dean M. (Francesca) Johnson, Craig M. (Kim) Johnson and Dotti (Don) Porrett; grandchildren, Richard M. (Marcella) Johnson II, Audrey Johnson (Theresa Bailey), Craig M. (Emily) Johnson II, Jennifer (Matthew) Maurin, Kristen Johnson, Allison Porrett (Christopher Balogh), Matthew Johnson and Alexander Porrett; 8 great grandchildren; and friends, Mary Lynne Fletcher and Alice Reed. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Monica Fisher, Lucille Fitzgerald and Ernest Warchock.
Dorothy will lie in state from 10:00am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00am on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 in Holy Trinity Parish St. Stephen Catholic Church. Reverend Brian K. Cokonougher will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Port Huron.
Memorials may be made to Visiting Nurse Association, St. Clair County Community Mental Health, or Hunter Hospitality House.
