John W "Johnny" Needham

John William “Johnny” Needham, 73, of Port Huron, died Tuesday, January 26, 2016.

He was born October 26, 1942 in Port Huron to the late Francis and Marian Needham.

He graduated from St. Stephen High School in 1960 and earned three degrees from Eastern Michigan University, a Bachelor of Science in music education and master’s and specialist degrees in guidance and counseling. He worked as a school guidance counselor, a substance abuse counselor and music director for a psychiatric hospital. He retired as director of counseling at L’Anse Cruise North High School after 36 years. He was a long time local piano player, entertaining at the Fogcutter, the River Crab and numerous parties and events. John and his music were magical. He touched people’s hearts, minds and souls and made them feel wonderful. For more than 40 years, he served as musician at Our Lady of Guadalupe. He was the first grand marshal of the Port Huron St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

He is survived by his son, Saeng Needham; an aunt, Rita Beavers; several nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and great nephews; a brother-in-law, Gilbert and many friends. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marie.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-9 pm Friday, February 5, 2016 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm at the funeral home.

Mr. Needham will lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 6, 2016 in St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. Brian Cokonougher will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery at 10 a.m. on Monday.
