Carole J. Sturges Zimerman, 83, of Marysville, died Thursday, February 11, 2016.
She was born March 22, 1932 in Port Huron to the late Charles and Alberta Sturges. She married John Zimerman on March 12, 1964. He died September 22, 2015.
Mrs. Zimerman was a 1949 graduate of Marysville High School and worked at Pressed Metals in Marysville before moving out west. She then worked as a secretary for several land developers in southern California, where she met her husband and lived for 35 years. After retirement, she and John returned to Carole’s hometown of Marysville in 1989. She was a longtime member of Marysville United Methodist Church, enjoyed playing bridge, and was the family historian. Carole’s younger siblings fondly remember what loving care she gave them in her role as “matriarch” after their mother died at a young age.
She is survived by a sister, Nancy (Larry) Corrigan of Kimball; a brother, Robert (Margo) Sturges of California; brothers-in-law, Tom Zimerman of Spring Valley, California and Gary Goodin of Marysville; four nieces, Dana (Larry) Westphal and Stacy (Brad) Priehs, all of Marysville, Pamela Pledger of San Jose, California and Patrisha Pledger of Kimball; four nephews, David Sylvester and Jim (Francie) Sylvester, both of Washington and Tom Zimerman and John (Renae) Zimerman, both of California; several great nieces and great nephews; and her church family. She was preceded in death by a sister, Pamela Goodin.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday in the Marysville Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 in Marysville United Methodist Church with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. The Reverend Barbara Welbaum will officiate.
Burial will be in Riverlawn Cemetery, Marysville. Pallbearers will be Gary Goodin, Denny MacPherson, Brad and Nick Priehs and Larry, Josh and Chris Westphal.
Memorial contributions may be made to Marysville United Methodist Church or Blue Water Area Humane Society.
The family wishes to thank, most wholeheartedly, her loving caregivers, Janet Driggers, Breanna Driggers, Janelle Commisso, Kathleen Bartz, Kelli Driggers, and Teresa LaParl for their wonderful care. Also Dr. John Brooks and Shawn Bourne, RN for care above and beyond.
