Jack Alexander Young, 89, of Oro Valley, Arizona, died Tuesday, October 11, 2016, of a fall complicated by Parkinson’s.
He was born June 24, 1927, in Port Huron. His mother was Beatrice Young, and they lived with his maternal grandparents, Nellie Maud and John Findlay Bissette. He married Dorothy Marie Dobratz on April 24, 1953, in Port Huron.
Jack and Dorothy moved several times in Michigan, transferred by his career as a Michigan State Police Officer. After he retired in 1977, they moved to Arizona, where he worked for the state. He was an athlete who enjoyed golf and working out in the gym until near the end of his life. He loved music, especially opera, an interest nurtured by his maternal grandfather. A dignified man, he was self-contained, but assertive in his own way. Blessed with a ready smile, he was gracious to others.
In addition to his mother and grandparents, Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years. He is survived by two nieces, Barbara White and Pat Cox (Graham Colditz), whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by great nieces and great nephews, Jason White, Brian (Denise) White, Stuart White, Andrew (Anne) Butler and Louisa Butler; 6 great-great nieces and nephews; and 3 great-great-great nieces and nephews.
Many thanks for the loving care Jack received in his final days from Casa de la Luz Hospice, Tucson, Arizona. Contributions may be made to the Casa de la Luz Foundation, 7740 North Oracle Road, Tucson, AZ 85704.
