Marjorie Akerly

Marjorie Ann Akerly, 80, of Marysville, died Sunday, April 2, 2017.

She was born August 23, 1936 in Mt. Clemens to the late Joseph & Dorothy L. Kay. She married Walter W. Akerly Jr. on November 24, 1984 in Richmond. He died December 27, 1998.

Marjorie was employed as an administrator at Marwood Nursing and Rehab and Autumnwood of McBain prior to her retirement. She loved the outdoors, especially her time in the Upper Peninsula or anywhere the water was in view. She was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church and was devoted to her faith and prayer life. She will be fondly remembered by her family for her enthusiastic commitment to her grandchildren’s sporting events, her endless card list and the baking of her heavenly apple pies.

She is survived by her children, Debra (Michael) Roberts, Jerry (Mary) Gavin and Denise Fruin Venia and her husband Jim; grandchildren, John Stewart, Matt Wylin, James (Erin) Gavin, Jeff (Amanda) Gavin, Jamie (Jay) Puffpaff, Roger Fruin and Chelsey (Luke) Langmesser; 13 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Elsie Kay and Shirliann Lewandowski; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Robert M. Fruin Jr. and brothers, Barton, Bob, Jim and Joe Kay.

Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-8 pm Tuesday in the Marysville Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held 11:30 am Wednesday, April 5, 2017 in St. Christopher Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 11:00 am. The Reverend Jim Rafferty will officiate. Burial will be in Arlington Hill Cemetery, Bangor, Michigan. Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to the Adrian Dominican Sisters Retirement Fund or the Robert “Tiger” Fruin Jr. Scholarship Memorial Fund.
