Wayne K VanBuskirk
Wayne K. VanBuskirk, 67, of Port Huron, died Sunday, April 30, 2017.
He was born December 10, 1949 in Port Huron. He was married to Francis Blues for 13 years and Wendy Walsh for 13 years. Wayne felt very blessed to have found love twice in his life and enjoyed being married to these kind, beautiful and talented women. He was grateful.
Wayne was also blessed with a loving, supportive family. He is survived by two brothers, Terry VanBuskirk and Andrew Cedervall; his sister, Vicki (Kirk) Edwards. He was preceded in death by his father, Olen VanBuskirk; his mother and step father, Grace and Eric Cedervall; and his brother, Allan Cedervall. He loved them all and was grateful.
Wayne was a Vietnam Veteran who served as a medic in the U. S. Navy from 1968 to 1972. Sometime in 1969, he became aware of all the lies and criminal nature of the Vietnam War and had to protest and help stop the unjust war. He became an anti-war activist and was a proud member of Vietnam Veterans Against the War and other peace groups.
Wayne was not a religious person, however he was a very spiritual man. He took a more diverse approach to God. He studied Native American, Buddhism, Zen, Hinduism, Christianity and other paths. His conclusion was that there are many different paths to honor and know God and none of us need to fight or disrespect how others worship God. God is about love and compassion. If we all embrace God and ourselves with love, our sins will be forgotten and we will receive mercy and peace.
Wayne graduated from St. Clair County Community College with a degree in mental health and nursing. Later, he became a clinical hypnotherapist and shiatsu therapist. Wayne worked for over 45 years in California as a psychiatric nurse with mentally ill, autistic, mentally challenged and alcohol/drug abuse patients. He also enjoyed a small private practice doing shiatsu massage, age regressions, past lives and other hypnotic healing techniques. He loved working with people and found trance states and altered states to be very healing and transformative for him and his patients.
“God bless my family, friends and all my relations - Namaste - Peace. Please give to the homeless and needy. Love your neighbor as yourself.”
A private celebration of Wayne’s life will be held by his family.
