Donald R. Lawson
Donald Ralph Lawson, 91, of Marysville, died Friday, August 24, 2018.
He was born September 25, 1926 in Port Huron to the late Ralph James and Frieda Sarah Lawson. He married Ellen Jane Kelly on February 4, 1950 in Marysville. She preceded him in death on July 12, 2015.
Donald was a 1944 graduate of Port Huron High School and then Eastern Michigan College of Commerce. He served in the U.S. 20th Air Force during World War II in Guam.
Don held various jobs at Mueller Brass Company retiring in computer systems management after 30 years of service. He taught several classes at St. Clair County Community College and after his retirement he worked at H & R Block for a few years. He was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church, Moose Lodge #158, Marysville American Legion Post #449, and was a former member of Mercy Hospital Auxiliary. Don enjoyed playing baseball in his younger years.
He is survived by his sister, Gloria Phillips; eight nieces and nephews, Steve (Nancy) Phillips, Bill (Chris) Phillips, John (Kim) Phillips, Judy (David) Cash, Jeff Phillips, Carol (Jeff Offenbacher) Phillips, Cathy Smart and Don (Lori) Smart; many great nieces and nephews; many great-great nieces and nephews; and many cousins, including a special cousin, Jeannine Frye. He was preceded in death a sister, Dorothy (Ivan “Red”) Smart; and a brother-in-law, Lowell Phillips.
Mr. Lawson will lie in state at St. Christopher Catholic Church on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend James Arwady will officiate.
The Rite of Committal will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Port Huron. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Air Force and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
Memorials may be made to St. Christopher Catholic Church, Marwood Nursing and Rehab, or the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary.
