George W "Bill" Smith

George W. “Bill” Smith, 92, of Goodells, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Thursday, December 3, 2020.

He was born October 8, 1928 in Detroit to the late George and Mae Smith, and to his Savior in 1938. He married the love of his life, R. “Bobbie” Sprowl on November 28, 1980 in Sparlingville and they were happily married for over 39 years. Bobbie died on July 3, 2020.

George graduated from Yale High School in 1946. He served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1948. He attended Piedmont Bible School for two years, and graduated from Baptist Bible Institute in 1952. He worked at St. Clair Rubber Company for 29 ½ years and then was employed as a Machine Operator with Riverside Metal for nine years until his retirement. George attended First Baptist Church of Goodells, where he enjoyed teaching the Bible to the young people for 17 years and the senior adult class for 47 years. He enjoyed gardening and played softball for 42 years.

He is survived by his children, Tim (Ann) Smith, Steve (Jody) Smith, Paul (Colleen) Smith and Faith (Richard) Doran; many grandchildren, great grandchildren; siblings Marilyn (Glen) Schade, Ronnie (Kathy) Smith, Jimmy (Betty) Smith, Delmer (Dorothy) Smith, Lynn White, Linda Smith and June (Larry) Wiegard; nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Phillip (Bonnie) Sprowl; and sister-in-law, Artie (Ed) McPhail. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie; son, Dave Smith; daughter, Debbie Osech; parents, George and Mae Smith; brothers, Dale, Larry and Harley Smith; and a sister Donna Barber.

A memorial service will be held at Noon on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 in First Baptist Church of Goodells. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the United States Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.

Burial will be in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly.
