Dale Eugene Lovitt

Dale Eugene Lovitt, 79, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2021 in Fort Gratiot, Michigan, where he has lived for the past four years.

Dale was born on May 12, 1941 in South Bend, Indiana, to Muril and Hazel Lovitt, both of whom preceded him in death. Dale met Catherine Marie Cressy, and they were married on December 5, 1964 in South Bend. They were happily married for 52 years. Catherine preceded Dale in death, passing away on April 5, 2017 in Laguna Woods, CA, where they resided for 16 years.

Dale proudly served in the United States Navy from June 11, 1958 until June 8, 1964. After marrying Catherine, he worked as an engineer with Indiana Bell and AT&T for 32 years. After retiring, he became a licensed real estate agent-a passion he enjoyed for many years.

Dale was an avid golfer, loved fishing and setting sail on open waters. He enjoyed reading, amongst so many other things, including watching his granddaughters perform in many theater productions, dance recitals, horse shows, band and Drum Corp performances. He loved watching Notre Dame sports, especially football. He enjoyed watching Notre Dame games, especially against Michigan, not only for the rivalry, but to watch his granddaughter marching in Michigan’s band. He was so proud of all his granddaughters and the young ladies they’ve become.

Dale is survived by his three daughters, Teresa (Brian) Jex, Cynthia (Bruce) Todd, and Michelle Lovitt of Los Angeles, CA. He had four grandchildren, Courtney Morrison, Sara Jex, Samantha Jex, and Katelynn Todd; as well as two great-grandchildren, Bryson and Myla. In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by his brother, James Lovitt.

Funeral services for Dale will be held privately on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Palmer Funeral Home-Hickey Chapel in South Bend, IN. Due to COVID, the service will be for immediate family only. Dale will be laid to rest next to his wife, Catherine, with full military honors at Saint Joseph Valley Memorial Park Cemetery in Granger, Indiana. When Covid restrictions are lifted, there will be a celebration of life in his honor.
