Shirley R Hart

Shirley Robert Hart, 96, of Fort Gratiot, died Thursday, November 25, 2021.

He was born May 26, 1925 in Detroit to the late Chester T. and Beatrice W. Hart. He married Donna Jean MacKenzie on September 16, 1950 in Port Huron. She died July 9, 2014, after 63 years of marriage.

Mr. Hart proudly served his country in the U. S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific theater. He was a machinist mate on the USS LST-757. While in the Navy, he was baptized on a small island in the Philippines. Following his discharge from the U. S. Navy, he returned to Port Huron.

Mr. Hart was employed as an electrician with Detroit Edison and retired after 40 years of employment. After retirement, he and Donna traveled to Europe, Canada, and throughout the United States.

Mr. Hart enjoyed traveling, boating, flying, and motorcycles. He was a longtime member of the Port Huron Yacht Club. He owned several boats through the years and he and his family visited places of interest in the Great Lakes. In addition, he was a crew member on a sailboat and for years sailed in the local Lake Huron sailboat races. He and friends purchased a small Cessna airplane and he enjoyed flying out of the St. Clair County Municipal Airport. Mr. Hart owned several motorcycles throughout his life and proudly rode his motorcycle on his 90th birthday.

He was an elder and deacon at First Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Schubert Club for 25 years, the Exchange Club and Charles Hammond Post #8.

He is survived by a daughter, Susan (Steven) Lewis; and a grandson, Alexander Hart Lewis. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Debra.

Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday, December 5, 2021 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 6, 2021 in First Presbyterian Church. Dr. Roxie Davis will officiate.

Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Navy and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
