Charles E. Hankey

Charles Edward “Chuck” Hankey, 83, of Kimball Township, died Thursday, February 8, 2024.

He was born November 28, 1940, in Midland to the late Dale and Helen Hankey. He married the love of his life, Sharon Little on September 29, 1962, a union that lasted over 61 years. Chuck entered the United States Air Force in 1958 being honorably discharged in 1962 and remained a proud veteran for the remainder of his years. Chuck and Sharon made their first home in Lansing, Michigan where he began his life-long career in automotive sales.

Always looking for adventure Chuck moved his family to northern Michigan. After his first “retirement” Chuck and Sharon embarked on a three-month-long trip, driving to Alaska and around the country he proudly served. They settled in Hendersonville, NC where they spent the next 14 years. While there, Chuck came out of retirement to fulfill his dream of owning a hardware store. He and Sharon eventually returned to Michigan in 1999 to be closer to their family and grandchildren landing in Port Huron. It is here he concluded his illustrious sales career with Blue Water Chrysler.

Chuck was an avid outdoorsman and especially liked hunting and riding his John Deere tractor around the yard, whether the grass needed cutting or not. He rode snowmobiles in his younger years with Sharon and later was introduced to four-wheeling by his son, which he continued to enjoy until he was 78. He also loved watching NASCAR, his favorite driver being Dale Earnhardt Sr. Chuck was incredibly proud of his grandchildren and loved spending time with them and attending their activities.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sharon Hankey; two children, David (Barbara) Hankey and Lynnette (Paul) Kraklan; four grandchildren, Nathan Hankey (Emma), Olivia Hankey, Dylan Kraklan, and Dalton (Mikayla) Kraklan; siblings, Janet Noble and Brian (Charlene) Hankey; brother-in-law, Corliss (Julie) Little; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Russ Noble and Dennis Little.

A memorial visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Monday, February 12, 2024, in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Private family graveside services with military honors will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly.
