David F Werner

June 12th, 1946 to October 23rd, 2024

David Frank Werner, 78, of Port Huron went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, October 23, 2024 after a long courageous battle with heart disease.

He was born June 12, 1946 in Port Huron to the late Edsel and Lillian Werner.

David served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War on two aircraft carriers, the U.S.S. Constellation and the U.S.S. Kearsarge. He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal with a Bronze Star and a Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. After his honorable discharge, he was employed at Eckherd’s drugstore in Texas and retired as a manager after several years. David had a passion for helping others and travelled twice on mission trips to Africa, working at an orphanage and using his inheritance to develop water wells. He was a long-time donor to American Indian Schools in the Dakotas and the Red Bowl food program for Russian Jewish Children. He was an avid reader and history buff who enjoyed cooking and sharing nutritional information with his friends and family. He was especially proud of his granddaughter, Amber, who is a practicing pharmacist.

He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Jean Werner; beloved granddaughter, Amber Duncan; four siblings, Sondra (Keith) Bricker, Patti Lippert, Cyndi Raines and Nancy Jane (Tom) Coleman; former wife, Oralee Hernandez; two stepchildren, Angelena Hernandez and Paul Hernandez; 5 step grandchildren; sister-in-law, Gay Lorraine Werner; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Werner; and brother-in-law, Ronald Raines.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2024 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m. The Reverend Brian Ake will officiate. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Navy and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.

Burial will be on the family plot in Woodland Cemetery.
