Robert M "Bob" Howard
On January 31, 2025, Bob Howard peacefully left this world at the age of 75, bound for his place in the universe.
Born on December 27, 1949 in Pontiac, Bob’s life was filled with service, adventure, and above all, love for his family and friends.
After graduating from Port Huron Catholic High School in 1968, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he and his wife Jane spent nearly four years stationed in Japan. Upon returning stateside, Bob made Port Huron his home once again, where he worked at Kroger for 27 years. Through his later work with Schwan’s and TruGreen, he built many lasting relationships with his customers, but it was his role as a loving husband, father, and grandfather that truly defined him.
A lifelong enthusiast of space and science fiction, Bob’s curiosity and sense of adventure were boundless. Whether he was enjoying his hobbies-reading, hunting, camping, woodworking, riding motorcycles-or dedicating countless hours as Scoutmaster of Troop 111, Bob was always looking for ways to explore, connect, and share experiences with those he loved. He was a father-figure to many Scouts, and his kindness and mentorship will never be forgotten.
Bob also found joy and purpose as a long-time member of the Blue Water Parrothead Club, where he chaired many fundraisers and helped raise significant funds for the community. He and Jane had the chance to take a “trip of a lifetime” to Scotland in 2022.
Just weeks ago, family and friends gathered to celebrate Bob’s 75th birthday, honoring a man who had touched so many lives. Bob will be laid to rest with military honors this Spring in the Allied Veterans Cemetery.
A lifelong dreamer who completed his final trip around the sun today, Bob’s spirit will now soar among the stars. If you look to the skies, you may just spot a new star near Orion, a glowing reminder of his well-lived life. For those on Earth, his spirit animal, the deer, will continue to visit -though as Jane suggested, he should keep his visits away from the roads. Bob’s wisdom, warmth and kindness will never be forgotten and his legacy will continue to shine brightly. Before leaving us he turned to gaze at the love of his life, Jane.
Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Jane; their two sons and their wives, Rob (Rachelle) and Doug (Michelle); eleven grandchildren, Kelsey, Maddie, Gibson, Tyler, Mick, Kaitlyn, Cameron, Gavin, Lincoln, Aleah, and Delilah; and four siblings, Jim (Donna), Jlynn Stout, Don (Mary), and Dick (Lynda). He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Margaret Howard; and his beloved granddaughter, Ella.
The family asks that you consider a donation to Blue Water Hospice or the Blue Water Parrothead Club in Bob’s memory.
