Kayleb D Smerer
Kayleb Duane Ward Smerer, 17, of Port Huron, died unexpectedly Thursday, September 11, 2025.
Kayleb was born December 13, 2007 in Port Huron, to his parents, Jeff and Brandi Smerer.
Kayleb graduated from kindergarten at Crull Elementary School, where he developed his interest in being a leader. In 2018, he attended the National Youth Leadership Pathway to STEM in Chicago, and in 2019, he was named Student of the Year and was nominated for the Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C.
Every year in elementary school, Kayleb was recognized as Student of the Month and was also named Safety Patrol of the Month. In middle school, he made the Honor Roll every year and was part of the PBIS Leadership Team.
Kayleb was currently a senior at Port Huron Northern High School, participated in the Metal Machining Program at TEC, and was enrolled in Middle College at SC4. His favorite things were Transformers, Hot Wheels, classic cars, ’80s rock, and vinyl records. He enjoyed playing Xbox, especially Minecraft. He was loved by everyone who met him and always had a smile on his face.
Kayleb is survived by his parents, Jeff and Brandi Smerer; siblings, Ayden, Bentley and Kinzley Smerer; grandparents, George Duenaz and Clitus and Joan Schuyler; aunts and uncles, Karrie (Lank) Green, Jamie (Victoria) Frazer, David Graham, Tricia Amesse, Jennifer (Chris) Schuyler, Jessica (James) Conard and Eddie Schuyler; many cousins; and five pets, Gunner, Blitz, Elsa, Jasper and Dewy. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Tammi Duenaz, Leona Schuyler and Duane Amesse; and his best furry friend, Hawkeye.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
