Shirley E Braun

Shirley Elizabeth Braun, 91, of Marysville, died Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

She was born March 28, 1935 in Onaway, Michigan to the late Arnold and Helen Vermilya. Shirley met a handsome athlete, Walter Braun, when they were both students at Central Michigan University, and the two were married on August 17, 1957 in Onaway. Walt preceded her in death on August 10, 2014 after 56 years of marriage.

Mrs. Braun worked as an educator in the Marysville School District for 39 years, spending most of that time in her 3rd grade classroom at Washington Elementary School. After retiring from formal teaching, she worked at the Marysville Library for many years, a job that perfectly matched her love of reading and her passion for education. Shirley enjoyed knitting and playing cards, but more than anything, she just loved being a supportive wife and mother. She will be remembered for her kind heart and her fabulous chocolate chip cookies.

She is survived by two sons, Barry (Rochelle) Braun and Scott (Kristen) Braun; eight grandchildren, Bailey, Barry Jr., Justin, Kortney, Derek, James, Mikayla and Easton; several great grandchildren; a brother, Arnold (Julia) Vermilya; two sisters, Jackie (Chene) Graziano and Patricia (Tom) Schell; and several nieces and nephews.

Shirley will be buried with her beloved Walt in a private graveside service at Riverlawn Cemetery in Marysville.

Arrangements are by the Marysville Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Marysville Community Fund of the St. Clair County Community Foundation.
