Shirley Braun

Shirley Elizabeth Braun, 91, of Marysville, died Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

She was born March 28, 1935 in Onaway, Michigan to the late Arnold and Helen Vermilya. She married Walter Braun on August 17, 1957 in Onaway and he preceded her in death on August 10, 2014 after 56 years of marriage.

Shirley was a teacher with the Marysville School District for 39 years and, after retiring, worked at the Marysville Library for many years. She enjoyed knitting and playing cards. Shirley was known for her love of reading and education and will be remembered for her kind heart and her fabulous chocolate chip cookies.

She is survived by two sons, Barry (Rochelle) Braun and Scott (Kristen) Braun; eight grandchildren, Bailey, Barry Jr., Justin, Kortney, Derek, James, Mikayla and Easton; several great grandchildren; a brother, Arnold (Julia) Vermilya; two sisters, Jackie (Chene) Graziano and Patricia (Tom) Schell; and several nieces and nephews.

Shirley will be buried with her husband, Walt, in a private graveside service at Riverlawn Cemetery in Marysville.

Arrangements are by the Marysville Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Marysville Community Fund of the St. Clair County Community Foundation.
