Phyllis A Malott

Mrs. Phyllis Alvene (Hemminger) Malott of Port Huron, was “softly and tenderly” called home to glory by her Savior and God after 88 years on this earth. She died Saturday evening, January 5, 2013 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Port Huron.

She was born August 21, 1924 in Painesville, Ohio to the late Rev. Harry J. & Lila D. Hemminger. She married Archer Leonard Malott on April 4, 1946. He died February 29, 2012.

Phyllis graduated from Lincoln High School and then Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in Cleveland, Ohio. She had a long, distinguished nursing career, first at the original St. Clair Hospital, and later at River District Hospital. She then became director of nurses and surgical nurse director at Mercy Hospital and also did surgical nursing at Port Huron Hospital. At age 49, she returned to school and graduated at the top of her class from Mt. Carmel School of Anesthesia. She enjoyed that career for 23 years until her retirement from Mercy Hospital at the age of 73.

Mrs. Malott is survived by nine of her ten children, Cheryl (Franklin) Spotts of Port Huron, Meryl (Steve) Way of St. Clair, Robert (Debbie) Malott of Novi, Barbara (Leon) VanTroostenberghe of Port Huron, Pat (Mike) Moak of Port Huron, Peter (Mary) Malott of Ridgefield, Washington, Marc Malott of Lexington, Larry Malott of Midland, North Carolina and David (Sara) Malott of Rockford, Illinois; 19 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; her only sister, Barbara Hoyt of Lansing; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Keith Malott on January 28, 2011 and a grandson, Kyle Malott on August 13, 2010.

Visitation will be 3-5 & 7-9 PM Friday, January 11 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Private funeral services will be held for the family at Griswold Street Baptist Church. The Rev. James Pettit will officiate. Private burial services will be held in Rosehill Cemetery.
