Richard E Cay

Richard Edwin Cay, 74, of Riley Township, formerly of Mio and Florida, died Monday, December 10, 2012.

He was born April 9, 1938 in Duluth, Minnesota to the late Edwin S. and Dorothea H. Cay. He married Kathryn Wreford on December 7, 1975 in Mio.

Mr. Cay was a self-employed professional photographer. He was named the Michigan Photographer of the Year in 1972 and taught photography courses at Schoolcraft Community College and Kirtland Community College. Richard was also a longtime Methodist and former Director of the Lake Huron United Methodist Camp for several years. During his time in Mio, he worked as a paramedic and was President of the Mio/AuSable School Board for 11 years.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn; four children, Robin Solano of Colorado, Robert Zalac of Port Huron, Karen (Nick) Johnson of California, and Brian (Natalie) Zalac of Lake Orion; eight grandchildren; and a brother, Norman (Linda) Cay of California.

He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Cay.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2012 in First United Methodist Church, Port Huron with visitation beginning at 12:00 noon. The Reverend William Wright will officiate. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council.
