Nora P Brooks
March 19th, 1924 to March 6th, 2016
Nora Parker Brooks, 91, of Clinton Township, died Sunday, March 6, 2016.
She was born March 19, 1924 in Itta Bena, Mississippi to the union of Walter Parker and Sallie Roberts Parker, the 9th of 12 children.
Nora left the south at a young age and moved to Detroit where she lived with her older sister, Pearl Brown. She did day work in Grosse Pointe until she met and married Joe Brooks on Christmas Day in 1946. She was hesitant to move to Smiths Creek, Michigan, because she loved the big city and did not want to go back to farm living. However, being devoted to her husband and the belief that the country was a better place to raise her sons, she relocated. She came to love the community and the many friends she made. She spent many happy years raising her sons and working with Joe Sr. in the family business.
Nora was a mean bid wisk player in her young days. Later in life she enjoyed word and picture puzzles, Judge Judy and her beloved Tigers. She watched every game and if the TV station would broadcast the hockey game instead of the Tigers, she would be a very unhappy person. She was a Christian from an early age and was a devout Jehovah’s Witness.
Nora leaves to mourn her passing two sons, Joe (Dara) Brooks Jr. and Ervin (Michele) Brooks; siblings, Sallie (Robert) Redditt, Mattie Roberts and Ely Parker; her grandchildren who loved her greatly, Regina Brooks, Tanya Brooks, Dominique Brooks, Mariah Brooks, Alicia Good, Andrea Good and Daniel Good; a host of nieces and nephews and many friends from her Kingdom Hall family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Sr. in 1980; a son, Napoleon Brooks; and a granddaughter, Tamika Brooks.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Friday, March 11, 2016 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10 a.m.
Burial will be in Caswell Cemetery, Kimball Township.
