William E Lymburner

William Ernest Lymburner, 91, of Fort Gratiot, died Wednesday, July 7, 2021.

He was born May 15th, 1930 in Port Huron, the son and second child of the late Ernest and Ruth Lymburner. He married Carlene Osmun on April 30th, 1955 in Port Huron. She preceded him in death on November 4, 2011 after 56 years of marriage.

William was a 1948 graduate of Port Huron High School. He served with the United States Army from August 1951 to July 1953. He worked at Campbell Ewald in Detroit as a computer programmer, and later became manager of data processing. After leaving Campbell Ewald, he and Carlene became entrepreneurs, owning and operating various motels around the state of Michigan, including, The Little King Motel, Coldwater, The Snowflake Motel, Saint Joseph, The Bavarian Inn, Sault Sainte Marie, The Owasso Motor Lodge, Owasso and The Main Street Lodge, Port Huron.

After selling the Main Street Lodge, William and Carlene retired to their hometown of Port Huron, where they were longtime members of St. John’s United Church of Christ. They spent their retirement years RVing, boating, owning classic cars, and enjoying their grand kids. They marked their 50th wedding anniversary with a celebration at the St. Clair Inn. After Carlene passed in 2011, William spent his time bowling in leagues, doing work at his church, and volunteering for the Salvation Army, often ringing a bell while manning a collection pot around the holidays. He was also a member of The Kiwanis Club of Port Huron, earning an 8 year perfect attendance award.

William is remembered by his loved ones as a creative, out-of-the-box thinker who always had a can-do attitude while solving problems and pursuing opportunities. Throughout his life, he showed an ability to analyze complex situations, acquire necessary skills, and assemble viable solutions. He epitomized the phrase “where there is a will, there is a way”. Carlene, his wife, had a similar attitude and would often say the phrase: “if it is to be, it is up to me.” He and Carlene were great examples of the American spirit and can serve as an inspiration to us all in these uncertain times.

He is survived by two children, Susan (Stephen) Lehrer and David Lymburner (Paula Haines); five grandchildren, Bryn Lymburner (Jessica Krasean), Zachariah Lehrer, Candace (Kenny) Walters, Tamara Lehrer, Stacey (Jeremy) Brown; seven great grandchildren, Elena Krasean, Blaire Lymburner, Shelbi Hannifee, Griffin(Autumn)Lehrer, Elianna Brown, Tyler Brown, Jillian Brown, and two great great grandchildren; Aurora Hannifee and Milo Lehrer. He was preceded in death by his wife Carlene Lymburner, and a sister, Joyce Keating.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 23, 2021 in Riverlawn Cemetery, Marysville. The Reverend Michelle Brown will officiate.
