David A. Rockwell, 71, of North Street, and formerly of Naples and Bonita Springs, FL passed away peacefully after a very short illness on September 3, 2022, surrounded by his family and taking his last ride on his Harley to his final destination to see his Almighty Father Jesus Christ.
He was born January 5, 1951 in St. Clair to the late George and Marion Rockwell.
David served in the United States Army as an Airborne Ranger from 1969 to 1971, serving in the Vietnam War. He was employed by Allied Universal for 16 years while in Naples FL. Prior to that he was owner of Blue Water Aquarium in Port Huron and also was employed by Little Bros Foundry and Blue Water Plastics. He enjoyed watching his sons and grandsons play football, hockey and basketball. He also loved woodworking and riding his Harley.
He is survived by a daughter, Michelle (Duane) Taughinbaugh of North Street; two sons, Chase (Bridget) Comstock of Port Huron Township and David Rockwell Jr. of Fort Meyers, FL; grandchildren Demerie (Alec) Zawicki of Ann Arbor and Grant and Rylyn Rockwell of Fort Meyers, FL; brother, Paul (Julie) Rockwell of Fort Gratiot; two sisters-in-law, Chris Haslip of Port Huron and Karen Douglas of Metamora; several nieces and nephews; and his favorite work buddies, Gary Newcomer and Randy Lewis of FL. He was preceded in death by his son, Larry Smith; mother and father-in-law, Harriet and James Haslip; and brother-in-law, James Haslip Jr. A very special thank you to his angels of God, Dr. Youssef Hanna and Dr. Matthew Johnson, Dr. Shilpa Meta, Dr. Daniel Souphis and the staff at Karmanos Cancer Institute, the McLaren Hospice staff and special friends, Judy Parker, Bonnie Rainwater, Gloria Shurkey and Rick Furtah.
A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 in the Salvation Army Citadel, 2000 Court St. with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Major Wesley Dalberg will officiate. A procession will follow to the Allied Veterans Memorial Cemetery where military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the United States Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
