Lucille Thomason
Surrounded by the embrace of her cherished family, Lucille Thomason, 80, of Fort Gratiot Township, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
She was born on January 12, 1945, in Yazoo, Mississippi, to the late Percy and Mary Rankin. Lucille’s life was a tapestry woven with grace, strength, and deep love. She married Clarence Oates on September 29, 2000 in Port Huron, sharing many treasured years with him until his passing on September 26, 2017.
Lucille dedicated eight years of service in customer relations with SEMCO and was a devoted member of New Life North Church, under the guidance of Pastors Loretta and Byron Hazley. Her faith journey also included a heartfelt connection with Restoration Christian Community Church, pastored by Dr. Carl E. Miller Sr. and Deborah J. Miller, where she found spiritual nourishment and lasting friendships.
A woman of refined elegance and quiet dignity, Lucille surrounded herself with beauty and extended that beauty outward through her generous spirit. She possessed a gentle gift for helping others, always eager to lend a hand or to brighten someone’s day with a thoughtful present, making everyone feel uniquely special in her presence. Her smile radiated warmth, and her wit could turn any moment into a cherished memory. She adored traveling across the United States, attending church gatherings, and savoring each of Michigan’s four seasons. Lucille’s signature phrase, “I love you more”, was her endearing response to those expressions of affection she so freely gave and received.
At the heart of Lucille’s world were her children and grandchildren, whom she loved beyond measure. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Karlnell Thomason, King (Shelby) Thomason IV, and Davita (Travis) Ricks; her grandchildren, Justin (Lauren) Keating , King (Kam) Thomason V, Kaitlyn (Marco) Bolar, Kourtney Thomason, Shea Thomason, Dion Thomason, Haley Thomason, Ariana (Ke’Von) Johnson, Jessica Travis, Travis Ricks III, Tremaine Ricks and Chikai Ricks; great grandchildren, Liam Keating, Maddie Keating, King Thomason VI, and Nala Thomason; and her goddaughter, Tamara McNair-Hicks. She was dearly loved by a wide circle of family and friends and is also survived by special friends, Curley Mae Bell, Emma and Mike Turner, Thomas and Debra McNair, Dorothea Jackson, Marcia and Skip Jefferson, Singh Dharamraj, Brewster Beavers and Pearline Parks; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who celebrate her legacy. Lucille was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert Ledd Rucker and C.W. (Christopher) Rankin.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude and special love to her daughter-in-love, Shelby Thomason, for her unwavering devotion and faithful companionship through everything.
A funeral service to honor Lucille’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 27, 2025 at Restoration Christian Community Church with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. Dr. Carl E. Miller will officiate the ceremony.
Lucille will be laid to rest at Lakeside Cemetery in Port Huron.
