Dean W. Ernsberger, 70, of Lexington Township, passed away peacefully Thursday, August 28, 2025 with his family by his side. Dean was a devoted husband, father, and “Toppa” to his grandsons. He was born October 2, 1954 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Wallace and Mary Ernsberger. He married Barbara Milutin on April 26, 1980 in Detroit. Dean was employed with Community Mental Health in both St. Clair and Sanilac County. Dean was especially devoted to volunteering for the Boy Scouts. He spent countless camping seasons at Silver Trails Camp and was involved with Troop 296 for many years. Dean was also a lay leader and volunteer at Lexington United Methodist Church. He enjoyed volunteering for Special Dreams Farm, God’s Treasures Camp, and Blue Water Habitat for Humanity. Dean will be remembered for his humor, dedication, and perseverance. He enjoyed building bonfires, especially at the family home in Little Lake. He and Barbara often traveled together to visit their grandchildren and explore across the U.S. and abroad. He never declined a sweet treat or a quick swim. Dean bravely fought cancer for eight years, living life to the fullest until his final days. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Barbara; children, Emily (Gary) Brady of Monroe, CT, Adele Ernsberger (Josue Maldonado) of Farmington Hills, MI, and Alex Ernsberger of Macomb, MI; grandchildren, Charlie, John, and William Brady; siblings, Mary Ernsberger and Anabeth Rivest; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Scott and Leslie Ernsberger. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 26, 2025 at Lexington United Methodist Church. Pastor Geri Hamlen will officiate.
