Lori A Ganiatsas

May 4th, 1959 to October 21st, 2025

Lori Ann Ganiatsas, 66, of Fort Gratiot, passed away peacefully in McLaren Hospital on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 with her family by her side.

She was born on May 4, 1959 in Detroit, Michigan. She was brought to her Port Huron home by her adoptive parents, Charles and Gloria Philp and sister, Gale Philp. Lori was a bright and beautiful child and she joyfully completed the family. Her childhood was fun-filled with friends and cousins and she enjoyed taking lots of lessons…. piano, sewing, ballet (not so much) but she took to the ice for figure skating, gaining applause from the arena audience as she spotted her family and waved her six-year-old self off the ice. Her favorite was swimming on the Y swim team as a young girl. Her friendships stemmed from the neighborhood and school with their birthday parties and sleepovers and now they branched out to the Y camp and family camping with like-minded adults and children.

Lori was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was educated in Port Huron and New York City area schools. While residing in Manhattan as a teenager living with her Dad, she experienced life in the big city. She was introduced to Mediterranean food while working as a sous-chef in a family-owned Greek restaurant. From there she learned to love and cook their special cuisine.

Moving back to Port Huron, Lori completed her education at Port Huron Junior College. It was then Lori began her working years in service to her community. She worked at Barr House Children’s Home. After its closing Lori continued working at Community Mental Health. She was then employed by I.M.P.A.C.T. in downtown Port Huron until her retirement in 2021.

Lori’s greatest accomplishment and joy in life was being a dedicated Mom to her son, Jason. A sweet remembrance of Lori was her telling of lovingly picking up her little son at the end of the day and sitting him on the kitchen counter while she prepared dinner and asking him how his day was. Lori’s greatest gift was time spent with her Jason. They delighted in evenings spent together and they had many conversations and laughs reminiscing over Jason’s growing-up years with their pet cats Rascal and Lily. Jason was her very best friend as well as her caring son.

Lori will be remembered for her humor and love for those around her. She had an innate ability to bring laughter and levity to every room she entered. She will be remembered as a warm-hearted mom, daughter, sister and friend to those who knew her.

Lori was preceded in death by her father, Charles Philp and is survived by her son, Jason Ganiatsas; mother, Gloria Philp; and sister, Gayle Philp Page.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 7, 2025 in Lakeside Cemetery. Pastor Lawrence Bowlin will officiate. Lori would love donations to be made to your local Animal Shelter or Spero Pregnancy Center.
