Maynard R Quinn

August 27th, 1956 to August 23rd, 2016

Maynard Ralph “Mo” Quinn, 59, of Walkerton, Indiana, died Tuesday, August 23, 2016.

He was born August 27, 1956 in Yale to Joyce and the late Ralph Quinn. Maynard grew up in a farm family around Goodells and Yale. He always loved horses and as a boy harness raced his brother Fred’s pony named Sugar. Mo also began his lifelong passion for auctions and flea markets that never wavered. In fact, at age 14, he graduated from Reppert’s Auction School in Decatur, Indiana. Later, he had a produce business with his friend Henry in Croswell, Armada, and several other locations.

When Mo was in his late teens he went to California and worked on a dairy farm raking hay, a skill he learned on his grandpa Maynard’s hay farm. After that, he became a furnace room foreman at Pacific Southern foundry, breaking all the records there.

After a few years Mo went back to Michigan and was introduced to North American Van Lines. He bought a semi-truck, and when delivering to Tepe’s in South Bend, Indiana, met his soon to be bride, Barbara, at the Billiard Ball pool hall. He married Barbara J. “Barbie” Balber on June 21, 1980. The two drove together for 2 years and several summers until Mo went driving on his own. In 1992, he and Barbie bought a farm on US6 in Indiana.

After changing truck companies quite a few years ago, his partner became a 2 year old shelter Jack Russell terrier named Lucky. The two had many adventures including driving across all 48 states, onto aircraft carriers and to the White House three times; moving “touchy” experimental items; going to several rock stars homes and concerts that Mo had no idea who they were; hauling NFL dirty clothes to a secret location guarded by machine guns (he didn’t know the teams, either!); and many more. What he did know were horses, of all sizes, and their equipment; old tractors LIKE NO ONE ELSE; and unique, primitive things impossible to find or identify; all at auctions.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Barbie; his mother, Joyce Black; three brothers, Gene, Ralph Jr., and John (Melissa); and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother, Frederick Quinn; and a sister, Janice Gay.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Max Amstutz will officiate.

Burial will be in Ruby Cemetery, Clyde Township.
