Elizabeth A "Betty" Nelson

Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Nelson, 91, of Marysville, died Wednesday, December 16, 2020.

She was born March 23, 1929 in Detroit to the late Alfred and Genevieve Cantrell. She married Gordon Nelson on January 5, 1952 in St. Gertrude Church, St. Clair Shores. He died in October, 1992, after 40 years of marriage.

Betty was a Registered Nurse at Port Huron Hospital for over 30 years. She was a long-time member of St. Christopher Catholic Church, where she served on the Altar Society and as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. She also enjoyed spending time with her coffee group after morning Mass.

She is survived by four sons, Patrick (Kaylene) Nelson, David (Yvonne) Nelson, James (Deborah) Nelson and Anthony (Rebecca) Nelson; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings, Jean (Gerald) Gloster, Evelyn (Samuel) Amato, Michael (Joan) Cantrell, and Thomas Cantrell; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Green; brother, Gerald Cantrell; and three sisters, Judith Tarutani, Mary Margaret Bledsoe and Eileen Cantrell.

Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. Sunday in the Marysville Funeral Home. A limited number of people will be allowed in at a time. Please wear a mask for the comfort and safety of others. A Rosary will be recited at 4:30.p.m.

Mrs. Nelson will lie in state on Monday, December 21, 2020 in St. Christopher Catholic Church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend James Arwady will officiate.

Burial will be in Riverlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Betty’s grandsons.
