The Rev. Dr. Lydia Margaret Agnew Speller, 66, of Port Huron, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 9, 2021.
She was born November 28, 1954 in New York, New York to the late Mary Elisabeth “Libby” and Seth Marshall Agnew. She married John Speller on August 20, 1977 in Nantucket, Massachusetts.
Dr. Speller was rector of Grace Episcopal Church, Port Huron. She previously served as rector at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in St. Louis, Missouri, as associate rector at Christ Church in Reading, Pennsylvania, and as a religion teacher at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. She received her A.B. degree from Bryn Mawr College, her S.T.M. from General Theological Seminary and her D.Phil. from Oxford University. She enjoyed cooking with her husband, John.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, John; two children, Morris Speller (Alexa Bertinelli) and Rosanna Speller and partner; a granddaughter, Ruta Bertinelli Speller; and a sister, Rosanna (Walter) LaBonte; and two nieces, Katie LaBonte and Bonnie LaBonte.
A private family service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 15, 2021. Friends and parishioners may watch the service livestream from Lydia’s obituary page on the funeral home website. A public memorial service will be held later this year in Grace Episcopal Church.
