Shirley A Briscoe

April 11th, 1937 to April 3rd, 2018

Shirley A. Briscoe, 80, of Port Huron, abruptly went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 3, 2018.

She was born April 11, 1937 in Orville, Ohio, to the late Henry and Clara VanderVeen. She married David Paul Briscoe on September 15, 1956 in Port Huron. He preceded her in death on September 27, 2010 after 54 years of marriage.

Shirley grew up in New Martinsville, West Virginia and moved to Port Huron when she was 8 years old. She graduated from Port Huron High School in 1955 and worked for Michigan Bell. She was the bookkeeper for Briscoe Pharmacy for many years and served as church secretary of Westminster Church, where she was an Elder, Deacon, and member of the choir and handbell choir. She worked diligently cleaning at the church after the 1984 fire and served on the building committee for the new church. She chose the stained-glass window that now graces the front of the sanctuary.

Shirley was an avid reader who enjoyed knitting, quilting and feeding her cats.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Joy Briscoe of Melbourne, Florida, Dr. Jennifer L. Briscoe of Port Huron; two sons, David Paul Briscoe Jr. of Belleville and William D. Briscoe of Port Huron; three sisters, Ruth Bywater of Pennsylvania, Roseanne Smith of Florida and Jake Hardin of Florida; two brothers, Donald VanderVeen of Pennsylvania and William Diamon of Florida; and sister-in-law, Irene Lindeborg of Marine City.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2018 in Westminster Church. The Reverend Tim Anderson will officiate.

Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Westminster Church and Feed the Children.
