Albert E Panter
Albert E. "Bud" Panter, 91, of Port Huron, died Monday, July 2, 2012. He was born May 28, 1921 in Cleveland, Ohio to Hazel and Elmer Panter. He graduated from Port Huron High School in 1939 and took a vocational course in refrigeration, becoming one of the first to receive a diploma from the State Board of Vocational Education in March 1941. He married Virginia Jean Lindsay on June 14, 1941 in First Congregational Church of St. Clair. Bud served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific aboard the USS Orizaba and the USS Hobson DMS-26. He was a life member and past commander of Charles Hammond American Legion Post #8 and served as president of the Charles Hammond Holding Corporation for over 40 years. He was a life member of Pine Grove Lodge #11 F. & A.M., life member of Scottish Rite Bodies - Valley of Detroit and life member of VFW Charles Schoor Post #796. Bud founded Panter's Refrigeration in 1955, retiring at age 62. He was an avid bowler and golfer and his favorite day was conducting the Post #8 golf outing with his buddies each year for the past 18 years. It was a fun day with food, drinks and prizes. He also loved playing cards with his old friends. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Virginia; and a daughter, Barbara Ann Brown of Marengo, Illinois. Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Thursday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2012 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. The Rev. Max Amstutz will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, St. Clair. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals.
