Roger Lee Smarch, 70, of Marysville, a lifelong area resident, died Tuesday, September 9, 2014.
He was born September 23, 1943 in Port Huron to the late Chester and Dorothy Smarch. He married Frances Rawza in September 1978 in Port Huron.
Mr. Smarch was employed with Chrysler for over 35 years, retiring in 2002. He was a huge sports fan who enjoyed nature and playing chess. He also coached Port Huron Little League and won two district championships. Roger will be remembered as a loving, generous and compassionate man.
He is survived by his wife, Frances; five children, Bonnie (Duke) Dunn, Kimberley (Angelo) Guzzo, Roger M. (Patty) Smarch and Jason (Erica) Smarch, all of Marysville, and Jeremy (Lindzie) Smarch of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina; grandchildren, Danny & Jacob Dunn, McKenzie & Patrick Guzzo, Jordan Smarch, Kyle Krueger, Riley Longo and Caleb Smarch; and a sister, Beverly (Roy) Piper of Marysville. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Smarch.
Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Thursday in the Marysville Funeral Home.
Mr. Smarch will lie in state from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 12, 2014 in St. Christopher Catholic Church. The Reverend Arthur Baranowski will officiate.
Burial will be in Riverlawn Cemetery, Marysville. Pallbearers will be Roger’s sons, grandsons, and special nephews, Michael Jewell and Ryan Brown.
Memorial contributions may be made to the People’s Clinic, Mid-City Nutrition or the United Way.
