Peter Hanel

March 14th, 1930 to November 2nd, 2015
Peter Hanel Jr., 85, of Marysville, went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 2, 2015 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born March 14, 1930 in Port Huron to the late Peter and Elsie Hanel. He married the love of his life, Rose Clyne on February 14, 1953 in Lakeport. She passed away March 27, 2009.

Mr. Hanel was an employee of Grand Trunk Western Railroad for 43 years before his retirement in 1987. He served as the president of the Grand Trunk Western Recreation Association for 40 years. Pete graduated from the Port Huron Area School District in 1948 and then served in the U.S. Air Force.

He is survived by his son, Steven (Marie) Hanel; two daughters, Teresa Hanel and Toni Hanel; seven grandchildren, Cindy (Joe) Lantz, Tracy (Richard) Smith, Mike R. (Bridget) Jackson II, Christopher L. (Anna) Hanel, Matthew Jackson, Marcus (Julie) Jackson, and Daniel (Stacey) Hanel; 14 great grandchildren; very special sister-in-law, Joey (Jerry) Grant and brother-in-law, Donald (Bertha) Clyne; dear friends, Robert and MaryLou Dell and the Clark Family; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry, Keith and Cliff Hanel; a sister, Delores Sassanella; and dear friend, Carol Clark.

Visitation will be 2-5 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the Marysville Funeral Home with a Prayer and Scripture Service at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Hanel will lie in state from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 6, 2015 at St. Stephen Catholic Church. The Reverend Jeffrey Allan will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Port Huron. Pallbearers will be Pete’s grandsons. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Air Force and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to Regency on the Lake Activity Fund.

Pete’s family would like to thank their “Regency Family” for their many years of loving care.
