Arthur James McMillan, 90, of Port Huron, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 21, 2017.
He was born October 2, 1927 in Inverness, Alabama to the late Gustava and William E. McMillan Sr., the fourth of ten children. He married Virginia L. “Gingie” Woodyard on April 23, 1947 in Toledo, Ohio. She died March 12, 2008.
Mr. McMillan attended Port Huron public schools. In 1946, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1947. In 1950, he received his diploma from the Michigan Barber College. Honey worked many jobs, later starting his own company, “McMillan & Sons Underground Construction,” where he worked until his retirement in 1985.
Honey traveled the U.S. extensively either for work or visiting his family. He loved his family and friends, never turning anyone away if they needed him. He was the quiet steel foundation of the family, never wanting to be in the light but standing tall in the mist. He was blessed with a photographic memory and was able to recite everyone’s birth date. Dad loved to read, spending his days reading many subscription newspapers.
He leaves behind to mourn his passing his four children, Jimmy Lee McMillan of California, Virginia Miller, Arthurine (Wesley) Kidd and Todd (Antoinette) McMillan, all of Port Huron; grandchildren, Dionne & Twila Morgan, LaTryce (Vernon) Johnson, Sherwin McMillan, Arthur (Rachelle) McMillan III, Ryan (Dominique) Brown, Woodrow Miller, Prince Miller, Cachet & Krista Faulkner, Brelyn, Logan & Todd McMillan Jr., Erica Culpepper, Shimea, Lamitra & LeConte McMillan; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Barbara McMillan, Yasmin McMillan, Edna Brown & Cynthia Morgan; brothers-in-law, Ollie Mitchell, Upton (Julie) Woodyard and Robert Woodyard; sisters-in-law, Cheryl Miller, Elizabeth Woodyard, Delores McMillan, Bobbie McMillan and Sandra Woodyard; many nieces, nephews and friends, including special sons, Sonny Gunter, Broderick Dinkins, and Nathanial Brown.
