Verne M Harris

August 22nd, 1953 to February 11th, 2021

Verne Mitchell Harris, 67, of Kimball Township, died Thursday, February 11, 2021.

He was born August 22, 1953 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada to the late Robert and Lorena Harris. He married Deborah Burg on October 20, 1973 in Utica.

The LORD called Verne to be a pastor when he was 16 years old. He tried to go to three different Bible Schools, but the LORD had other plans. Instead, Verne was put through an “apprenticeship”, starting with his earthly father, who was a great preacher/pastor, and adding other men and women along the way.

Besides learning how to speak in public, he learned how to administer Communion, visit the sick, and perform baby dedications, funerals and weddings. He learned how to talk to and treat people. “ Jesus didn’t die for buildings and programs, he died for people”, so it is people that matter, not the stuff. In his messages, Verne purposely avoided using “$25 words” because his goal was not to impress everybody, but to feed the flock.

Verne served the LORD as a pastor for 45 years. He met his wife, Debbie in his home church. They were married 47 years and were at LICF for the last 32 of those years. They have four adult children, who with their families, are believers in Jesus Christ our Redeemer.

He was employed as an engineer at Aludyne Corporation before his recent retirement. He was always shopping for new technology and enjoyed fishing and going for rides in his convertible.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie; four children, Austin (Michelle) Harris, Dr. Ben (Christina) Harris, Danae Harris and Martin Harris; six grandchildren, Cassidy, Lydia, Gabriel, Adele', Mialyn and Daniel Harris; brother, Lanny (Sue) Harris, sister-in-law, Julie Harris; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dean Harris.

A memorial service will be held later this summer at Life in Christ Fellowship.

Memorial contributions may be made to Life in Christ Fellowship.
