Lynne Mary Secory, 82, of Port Huron, died Friday, January 21, 2022.
She was born September 9, 1939 in Goshen, Indiana to the late Marie and Thomas Polglase V. She married Lewis Secory on July 12, 1958 in Spring Lake, Michigan. He preceded her in death on April 25, 2019 after 60 years of marriage.
Lynne and her dear friend, Vicki Peterson operated the Victorian Inn for fifteen years.
She gave her heart and soul to her community. Lynne was a tireless “hands on” volunteer who served on numerous committees and boards. She was a spark plug, an angel and a fighter. Her interests and passions were focused around making Port Huron a vibrant community for all. She was committed to educating the public on the value of historic preservation. She served as President of Mainstreet Port Huron, The Port Huron Museum, Michigan Preservation Network and volunteered with South Park Heritage Group, Olde Town Historic District, Fort Gratiot Light Station and countless other preservation organizations and projects. The friendships and admiration of her peers, her “comrades in the trenches”, meant the world to her. There are many shout outs she would probably insert here- but those that were there and helped in some way, know who they are!
She believed in equal opportunity, strong public schools, hard work, travel, good food, belly laughs, beautiful gardens, old things, shenanigans with friends and exceptional pool floaties. Most of all she believed in the inherent goodness of people. Lynne and her beloved husband, Lew- were generous with their hearts and hands. Whether it was the skater that needed equipment, or the volunteer who needed a bus pass to make it to the meetings, they were always offering a hand up. Their considerable generosity may be invisible to most, but it is quietly imprinted on the hearts of all who knew them.
Lynne was a blessing to her family. A loving and fun mom and nana, who was always our biggest cheerleader. Equally skilled at grounding, she knew just when we needed to be knocked down a peg or two! We will always cherish the hours of cooking, swimming, driving to hockey games, crafting, pontooning and (of course) moving her boxes full of “important stuff”. These were opportunities to absorb her kind spirit and gain life lessons; fond memories we will carry with us.
She is survived by three children, Lewis P. (Pam) Secory, Brad (Kristyn) Secory and Jill Secory Moore; seven grandchildren, Jessica (D.J.) Evans, Samantha (Brett) Schmiege, Sydney (Christopher) George, Claire (Brandon) Huntoon, Evan Secory, Grant Moore and Maxwell Moore; four great grandchildren, Hayden and Taylor Evans and Eli and Bradley Huntoon; two sisters, Jill Ealy and Joan Fox; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Pam Ryan; and brother, Thomas Polglase VI.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 in the Blue Water Convention Center. Dr. Tom Seppo will officiate.
