Ruth E Ayers
Ruth Ellen Ayers, 65, of Marysville, died Monday, August 1, 2022, after a battle with brain cancer.
She was born April 13, 1957 in Port Huron, Michigan to the late Erwin and Lorraine Piechowiak, and lived her whole life in the Port Huron area, while “snow-birding” the past several years in Venice, Florida. She married Rick L. Ayers on May 7, 1976, in Port Huron.
Ruth attended St. Mary school through 8th grade and graduated from Port Huron Northern in 1975. She attended St. Clair County Community College in Port Huron and graduated from Walsh College, Troy, Michigan with a degree in Finance. She worked at Star Oil Company, Port Huron, for 17 years. She was the Company’s Controller at the time she left to be a stay-at-home-mom, which she always thought was the best job in the world. When her children were older, Ruth worked as an independent contractor performing accounting and bookkeeping services.
Ruth was an active and social person. At various times during her life, she was a member of the local Rotary Club, Child Study Group, ladies wine group and several yoga studios. She had a long association with St. Mary Church, Port Huron. In addition to yoga, Ruth enjoyed running, walking, cycling, going to the beach, and gardening. She never said no to good food and drink with her family and friends. She had a great interest and talent for music that she passed on to her children.
But the focus of Ruth’s life was her family. She grew up in a family of 6 girls. She enjoyed holidays and events with a very large extended family of sisters, nieces and nephews. She remained close to her family her entire life. She was married to her best friend and soulmate, Rick, for nearly 20 years before they added 2 children, Hope and Jonathon, to the family. Rick and Ruth were married for over 46 years, and supported each other throughout life. She was involved and volunteered in all aspects of her children’s lives while being a mom. Ruth supported all her children's interests including soccer, library, dance, karate, piano, guitar, swimming, cheer leading, football, baseball and all the activities at St. Mary school and church. Most of all, she was a role model for her husband, children, and others on living life to the fullest. Everyone who knew her knows about her wonderful smile and laughter.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 46 years, Rick; children, Hope and Jonathon; sisters, Ann (Fred) Schmidt, Sue Nierynk, Jane (Bruce) Taylor, Chris (Darren) Baker; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her son Matthew; and sister, Mary Hart.
