Earl F Wendt
Earl Fredrick “Sonny” Wendt, 77, of Port Huron died Friday, January 9, 2015.
He was born August 18, 1937 in Marysville to the late Adeline and Earl Fredrick Wendt Sr. He married Garldeen “Jean” Pettee McKelvey on October 13, 1972.
Earl spent 20 years in the military serving in both the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Marine Corps including during the Vietnam War. He was also employed until his retirement with the State of Michigan and St. Clair County.
He was very active with The River Church serving in many capacities including with the Men’s Ministry and Sunday School. He was an active member of the Marine Corps League, Order of the Silver Rose and Life Member of the V.F.W. Earl was a proud survivor of Pancreatic cancer.
Earl is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jean; children, Linda (Ray) McKelvey Jawor of Jeddo and Cindy McKelvey Kars of Florida; six grandchildren; many great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; aunt, Charlotte Edie; several nieces and nephews including Herb Wendt of Port Huron; dear friend and Air Force buddy, Howard Hall of Texas; and little dog, Abby. He was preceded in death by his son, Gordon McKelvey; and grandson, Bradley Kars.
Visiting hours will be from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Monday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Tuesday, January 13, 2015 in The River Church. Pastor Bill Wahl will officiate. Burial will follow in Allied Veterans Cemetery, Port Huron.
Memorials may be made to The River Church or the Blue Water Area Humane Society.
The family wishes to thank the nurses in the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Intensive Care Unit for the excellent care provided to Earl.
