Donald W. “Don” Giese, 90, of Fort Gratiot, died Friday, September 16, 2016.
He was born March 12, 1926 in Escanaba to the late Alfred and Della Giese. He married Alice I. Groosbeck on August 29, 1948 in Ypsilanti.
Don served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He received his teaching degree from Michigan State Normal College (now Eastern Michigan University) and his master’s degree from the University of Michigan. He taught for eight years with the Romeo School District and then went to work with the Michigan Educational Association until his retirement in 1981. For many years, he also owned and operated with his wife, Alice’s Kitchen & Bath in Port Huron. Don was a long time member of First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Alice; three children, Cyndy Keesler, John (Leeann) Giese, and Thomas (Tom MacLaney) Giese; two grandchildren, Dr. Rebekah (Alex Debruin) Keesler and Matthew (Laura) Keesler; his sister, Lane Dietrick; a niece, Keely Dietrick; and a nephew, Michael Dietrick.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. on Monday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 in First United Methodist Church with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend William Wright will officiate.
